It has been so fun to get to know Katie and Jan Moon from Dreamcakes Bakery in Homewood.  When we first moved to Birmingham 6 months ago I found myself  spending a lot of time in Homewood and Mountain Brook for work.  Being a new wedding photographer in Birmingham, I really wanted to spend time getting to know wedding vendors in the area. My youngest daughter Abigail (4) is still at home with me  and we like to go exploring together. Dreamcakes Bakery is literally the “sweetest” spot in Homewood.  Dreamcakes specializes in specialty cupcakes, customized special occasion cakes and  wedding cakes. The list of flavors is INCREDIBLE. They have flavors like the “plain jane”, the “maple bacon” (picture bacon dipped in maple syrup on a cupcake), the curious george (banana flavored),”over the moon”, and my new favorite (I change my mind every week) “Caramel Sea Salt Mocha”.  They also offer a glueten free cupcake which has become a very popular sweet for families with allergies.

The best part about Dreamcakes has got to be the people, hands down.  I have a very soft spot in my heart for family run businesses and Katie & Jan (a mother daughter dream team) are absolutely the best.  Abigail and I made frequent stops at the “tuptake” shop while in Homewood and got to meet Katie during a television interview that ABC was doing during one of our many visits. You can see Abigail and I being interviewed here.  It wasn’t long after meeting that I started to work on a special project for them, taking photographs of the cupcakes, the store, the merchandise and my favorite part THE PEOPLE.  I loved being in the bakery and photographing this team in action.  They laugh a LOT and keep things moving at a fast pace, while taking extra note of all the intricate details that go into each and every specialty cake.

If you have been living under a rock and have never heard of Dreamcakes until now, you must drive to Homewood tomorrow and grab yourself a cupcake (or 12), but go early because these things are fresh and they sell fast!
